In a flow battery stack, individual cells are typically fed with electrolyte in a parallel configuration, resulting in identical pressure drops across each cell. In this parallel liquid supply system, the distribution of electrolyte flow is closely related to the flow resistance in each branch.

What is vanadium redox flow battery technology?

Vanadium redox flow battery technology utilises two electrolyte solutions that are pumped into a twin chamber tank via two separate independent flow lines. These positive (anolyte) and negative (catholyte) electrolytes typically contain a chemical solution with sulphuric acid at around 30% concentration.

What is a redox flow battery?

In a redox flow battery, the electrolyte serves as the carrier for the active substances. The battery facilitates the conversion between electrical and chemical energy through oxidation and reduction reactions of the active substances in the posolyte and negolyte.

Why do redox flow batteries block gas?

However, during the practical operation of redox flow battery stacks, inadequate electrolyte supply can intensify the hydrogen evolution reaction during the charging process. This, in turn, exacerbates gas accumulation in the carbon felt, leading to more severe gas blockage. This phenomenon warrants further investigation in the future.
